Jake Gyllenhaal Raves About Working with Little Shop's Ellen Greene and Offers Audrey Impersonation (Video) | Playbill

News Jake Gyllenhaal Raves About Working with Little Shop's Ellen Greene and Offers Audrey Impersonation (Video) Jake Gyllenhaal, who was critically acclaimed for his performance in the recent New York City Center concert staging of the musical Little Shop of Horrors — opposite original stage and screen Audrey, Ellen Greene — speaks about that experience in an interview with DP/30.

Gyllenhaal, who played down-on-his-luck plant-shop worker Seymour, said the Little Shop cast and creative team were "the most talented people I've ever worked with."

About co-star Greene, the film star said, "She's so brilliant and talented… When I was a boy and I saw the ['Little Shop'] movie, she was this mix of sexuality… and this oddity I couldn't seem to understand. All the things that she really is, but as a boy watching it sort of fell in love with her…

"And when we first did the first reading and sing-through… and we did 'Suddenly Seymour'… When I watched her sing 'Somewhere That's Green,' I realized, literally, this is not an exaggeration, why I had done all the work I'd done up to that point. I never had that experience, really, where I went, 'This is something I really, truly earned, to be a part of history like that.' It's almost like I met the little boy who watched the movie for the first time in the moment watching her sing."

"Now I realize why I've been blessed to make all these films," Gyllenhaal continued. "It's to get to this moment to work with her, and it felt like that every night onstage. Every night onstage was like that."

The Oscar nominee also spoke about how special the Alan Menken-Howard Ashman musical is and even offered his own impersonation of Greene's definitive portrayal of Audrey.

Gyllenhaal, whose new film "Demolition" premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, also recently told E! Online, "I definitely would love to be doing a musical on Broadway in the near future.…It would be a huge honor. There are a lot of really good people who do it really well so you gotta know you can do it well if you're going to do it."
