Classic Arts News Jane Eaglen Debuts as Lady Macbeth in Vancouver Opera's Upcoming Season Vancouver Opera's 2006-07 season includes a new production of Mozart's The Magic Flute and a new production of Verdi's Macbeth, with soprano Jane Eaglen in her role debut as Lady Macbeth.
Baritone Greer Grimsley will sing alongside Eaglen, both making their VO debuts, in the title roles in a new co-production with Portland Opera of Macbeth. Jonathan Darlington conducts; Garnett Bruce directs.

A new production of The Magic Flute will be set in the Canadian Pacific, incorporating indigenous mythology and imagery. Derrick Inouye conducts; Robert McQueen directs; costumes are by Christine Reimer and John Powell.

Vancouver Opera general director James Wright said; "I am especially proud of our production of The Magic Flute, set in the mythological and spiritual realm of the Coast Salish First Nation. It will bring fresh insight and great beauty, from the particular perspective of the peoples of our community, to Mozart's universally appealing masterpiece."

A new Utah Opera co-production of Ariadne auf Naxos will be designed by Robin Vest, conducted by Darlington, and directed by David Gately. A revival of Puccini's Tosca will be conducted by Robert Tweten and directed by Stanley M. Garner.

Soprano Elizabeth Futral will sing in a concert performance of Bellini's I puritani at the end of the season.
