Seinfeld co-star Jason Alexander reportedly will take over the role originated by Nathan Lane in Love! Valour! Compassion! when the Tony-winning play begins filming June 24.

Alexander, a Tony-winning Best Actor in a Musical for Jerome Robbins' Broadway will play Buzz, the flamboyant musical theatre expert in Terrence McNally's play about a group of gay men who gradually become a kind of family during a summer in an upstate New York country house.

L!V!C! is being produced by Doug Chapin for Love Valour Productions. The distributor is Fine Line Features.

Aside from Lane, nearly the entire Broadway cast and creative team has been reassembled for the film: Joe Mantello will direct, and John Glover will repeat his Tony-winning performance as a pair of twins.

Also in the cast: Stephen Bogardus, Justin Kirk, Randy Becker and John Benjamin Hickey. Stephen Spinella, who originated the role of Perry at off-Broadway's Manhattan Theatre Club, will replace Broadway's Anthony Heald. John Carrafa will choreograph and Jess Goldstein will design costumes.

The Broadway run was cut short in September 1995, in part because filming was supposed to start then. But Lane withdrew from the project, prompting a break with playwright McNally. Between Birdcage, Forum and the Tony show, everything seems to be coming up Lane this spring. However, he will be conspicuously absent from the set of L!V!C!
