He joins a cast that includes the previously announced Samantha Barks as Vivian, Tony Award winner Steve Kazee as Edward, and Tony nominee Orfeh as Kit.
The musical, featuring a score by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance and a book by the late Garry Marshall and the film’s screenwriter J.F. Lawton, will make its world premiere March 13, 2018, at Chicago’s Oriental Theatre, where it will play a five-week out-of-town engagement. Broadway performances will begin at a Nederlander theatre to be announced that fall.
The comedy marks a reunion between Danieley and director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell following the 2000 Broadway production of The Full Monty (Danieley played Malcolm MacGregor; Mitchell earned his first Tony nomination for his choreography). “Now it is a pleasure to be back at it with Jason Danieley,” Mitchell said. “All I can say is I lucked out when he said yes!”
Danieley last appeared on Broadway as Billy Flynn in Chicago; his additional credits include The Visit, Next to Normal (opposite his wife, Marin Mazzie), Curtains, and Candide.
