The pianist, singer and composer will be performing brand new, previously unheard material, as well as a selection of songs from his scores to the shows Songs for a New World, Parade, The Last 5 Years and 13.
Brown regularly appears in concerts, and has previously been seen in the U.K. performing at the New Players Theatre. He was also musical director for Philip Quast's Divas at the Donmar season in 2002. According to publicity materials, Brown is best known for spearheading the new generation of contemporary American musical theatre composers. His four major musicals as composer and lyricist are 13, written with Robert Horn and Dan Elish, which began its life in Los Angeles in 2007 and opened on Broadway in 2008; The Last 5 Years, which was cited as one of Time Magazine’s 10 Best of 2001 and won Drama Desk Awards for Best Music and Best Lyrics; Parade, written with Alfred Uhry and directed by Harold Prince, which premiered at Lincoln Center Theatre in 1998, and subsequently won both the Drama Desk and New York Drama Critics’ Circle Awards for Best New Musical, as well as garnering Jason the Tony Award for Original Score; and Songs for a New World, a theatrical song cycle directed by Daisy Prince, which played Off Broadway in 1995, and has since been seen in hundreds of productions around the world.
In addition to Caroline, or Change, Rose has appeared on Broadway in Footloose and as Maggie in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Other credits include appearing in the film version of "Dreamgirls", and providing the voice of the Princess in Disney's "The Princess and the Frog."
