Discovered in a locked box years after Chekhov's death, the play has appeared as Play Without Title, Without Fathers, A Country Scandal, Don Juan in the Russian Manner and as the film "Unfinished Piece for the Player Piano."

Performed with the title Platonov, or The Disinherited, it will premiere at the Kitchen Jan. 8 at 8 PM, directed by Jay Scheib. "The Disinherited," a film of the production — edited and broadcast live — will subsequently screen at the AMC Empire 25 Cinema. The BAM Rose Cinemas at the Brooklyn Academy of Music will feature subsequent performances.

Chekhov's 20-character play "centers on several women who pursue affairs with the married Platonov, a former intellectual, even as they tumble toward social and economic ruin," according to the Times.

Scheib's directing work includes A House in Bali, World of Wires and Powder Her Face. The Director of Theater Arts at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he often integrates multiple video screens into his work and has adapted Samuel R. Delany’s science-fiction novel "Dhalgren" into Bellona, Destroyer of Cities.
