Artistic director Sam Woodhouse directs the revival of the 1928 musical version of John Gay's The Beggar's Opera. Meek's many credits include TV's "Raven" and "As the World Turns," and major stage roles such as Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire.
The troupe also includes Lyle Kanouse (Broadway's Big River) as Jonathan Peachum; Leigh Scarritt (How the Grinch Stole Christmas at the Old Globe) as Mrs. Peachum; Lisa Payton (Ain't Misbehavin', 'da Kink In My Hair and Crowns at the REP) as Jenny Diver; Amanda Kramer (The Women at the Old Globe); Gale McNeeley (Broadway's Two Gentleman of Verona and Cyrano); Amy Biedel (How the Grinch Stole Christmas at the Old Globe) as Lucy; Ruff Yeager as Matt; Paul Kruse as Smith; Bryan Barbarian; Karson St. John; Shawn Goodman Jones; Jim Mooney; and Danny King.
Opening night at the Lyceum in San Diego, CA, will be March 6.
According to the REP, "Bertolt Brecht, one of the most controversial and influential revolutionaries of his time, weaves a cunning story of love, deception and greed run wild. Composer Kurt Weill creates the perfect match with a legendary score that is as colorful as a Berlin cabaret — an astonishing mix of musical melodies that engage both heart and brain."
The creative team includes choreographer Javier Velasco, musical director Mark Danisovszky, set designer Giulio Perrone, lighting designer Trevor Norton, sound designer Tom Jones and costume designer Jennifer Brawn Gittings.
