Bricusse will pen seven new original songs for the work, which is based on a script he wrote. The project, announced by production group The Hatchery, is slated to start in June on location in Ireland. The 1970 musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" starred Albert Finney in the title role and Alec Guiness as Marley's Ghost. Bricusse earned two Academy Award nominations (Best Original Song and Best Original Song Score) for the film.
Bricusse wrote and composed the musicals Stop the World — I Want to Get Off and The Roar of the Greasepaint — The Smell of the Crowd. His lyricist credits include work on Pickwick, Victor/ Victoria and Jekyll & Hyde. He has also worked as a lyricist for film, garnering Academy Awards for the song "Talk to the Animals" from "Dr. Dolittle" and for original song score for "Victor/ Victoria," written with Henry Mancini. Among his other musical film credits include "Goldfinger," "Goodbye Mr. Chips," "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory," "That's Life!," "Home Alone," and "Hook."
Ms. Loesch and Mr. Stein will serve as executive producers of the new "Scrooge" with Mr. Bricusse and Emmy Award winners Dan Angel and Billy Brown (2003 Outstanding Television Movie "Door to Door").
