Marc Bruni (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) will direct the production that runs April 25-May 18 at the Civic Opera House. It officially opens April 26.
Gambatese (Wicked, All Shook Up, Tarzan) will play Maria, with Hibbert ("The Nanny," The Drowsy Chaperone, Curtains) as Max Detweiler.
The cast also features opera stars Christine Brewer and Elizabeth Futral, as the Mother Abbess and Elsa Schraeder, respectively. The Sound of Music will also include 37 members of the Lyric Opera Orchestra and a 25-member ensemble.
Additional casting will be announced.
The Sound of Music will have choreography by Denis Jones, scenic design by Michael Yeargan and costume design by Alejo Vietti. It will be conducted by Rob Fisher.
The Sound of Music features a libretto by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse and a score by Richard Rodgers (music) and Oscar Hammerstein II (lyrics) that includes "My Favorite Things," "Do-Re-Mi," "Edelweiss," "Something Good" and "So Long, Farewell."
