News Jennifer Holliday to Perform at Annual Heartworks Gala Heartworks: The Marfan Gala — the annual benefit for the National Marfan Foundation — will be held April 17 at Cipriani 42nd Street.

NBC's Hoda Kotb will serve as master of ceremonies for the evening, which will boast performances by Tony Award winner Jennifer Holliday and the Broadway Kids.

The gala, which begins at 6 PM, will also feature the presentation of the Hero with a Heart Awards. Recipients include Merck & Co., Inc.; and Harry C. Dietz, III, MD of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg will be the honorary chair of the gala. Tony winner Ann Reinking is the dinner chair.

In a statement Karen Murray, the corporate host for the evening, said, "This year's Hero with a Heart Award recipients, Dr. Hal Dietz and Merck & Co., are similar in their commitment to innovation and patient care. They are recognized leaders in their respective fields, providing the highest level of services and care to patients. In the medical area, they are second to none and exemplify the true nature of a hero with a heart."

Marfan syndrome is a "connective tissue disorder that affects the heart, blood vessels, eyes, bones, joints and lungs." To date the Heartworks galas have raised more than $5 million for the organization.
