Playwright Jeremy O. Harris, whose play Slave Play will premiere at New York Theatre Workshop this fall, is attached as screenwriter to Janicza Bravo's film Zola. The movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is inspired by Aziah Wells (Zola), who rose to internet fame in 2015 when she chronicled her trip to Florida with an exotic dancer.

Zola will be directed by Bravo (Lemon) and is being produced by A24, the same company behind the film adaptation of Aleshea Harris' Relentless Award-winning play Is God Is. Taylour Paige will star in the film's title role.

The screenplay is co-written by Bravo, Harris, Andrew Neel, and Mike Roberts, with production set to begin in the fall.

Harris' Slave Play will be seen Off-Broadway at NYTW beginning November 19 with direction by Obie Award winner Robert O’Hara. His play Daddy will have its world premiere in the winter of 2019 as part of the Vineyard’s 2018-2019 season in a co-production with The New Group. Danya Taymor will direct, with previously announced Alan Cumming set to star.

Harris' other full-length works include Xander Xyst, Dragon: 1, and Water Sports; Or Insignificant White Boys. He is the recipient of the 2018–19 Paula Vogel Playwriting Award; Harris is also a 2016 MacDowell Colony Fellow, an Orchard Project Greenhouse artist, resident playwright with Colt Coeur, and under commission from Lincoln Center Theater and Playwrights Horizons.
