Cher. Eartha Kitt. Billie Holiday. Patsy Cline. Betty Davis. Judy Garland. All on the same stage? Yes, thanks to the talent of voice illusionist Jimmy James.
Hailed as "one of the leading impressionists of today" by Time Out New York, James has toured the country as a premier Marilyn Monroe impersonator, and now he brings his impersonations of a host of other show business legends to the intimate stage of Joe's Pub, located inside downtown's Public Theater. James will perform his special gay pride celebration —The One and Many Voices of Jimmy James— at Joe's Pub on June 27 at 9:30 PM.
A Texas native, James has appeared on numerous television chat shows, including those hosted by Phil Donahue, Sally Jessy Raphael and Joan Rivers. His one-man show, "Marilyn and Voices," which he wrote and produced, has been seen in New York, Los Angeles, Atlantic City, Europe, Asia and Australia. Also a recording artist, James' first single, "Who Wants to be Your Lover," was released in 1998.
Tickets for The One and Many Voices of Jimmy James are priced at $20 and are available by calling (212) 539-8778. Joe's Pub is located at 425 Lafayette Street, between East 4th Street and Astor Place.
