The Acting Company's John McDonald Salon Series will continue March 20 with the first New York City reading of Marcus Gardley’s Atlanta-based reinvention of Moliére's Tartuffe, A Wolf in Snakeskin Shoes: Or, The Gospel of Tartuffe at 7 PM at the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater at the West Side YMCA, 10 W. 64th Street, New York.
Artistic Director Ian Belknap will direct a cast that includes Inga Ballard (Ragtime first national tour), Jonathan David (Les Miserables), Perri Gaffney (The Resurrection of Alice), Cara Ricketts (The Homecoming, Stratford Festival), Heather Alicia Simms (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), Keith Randolph Smith (Jitney, American Psycho), and Tatiana Wechsler (The Golden Bride).
From the author of The Acting Company’s touring production of X: Or. Betty Shabazz v. The Nation—now playing Off-Broadway's New Victory Theater through March 25—comes an inventive riff on Moliere’s Tartuffe set in a world of megachurches and religious hypocrisy. Written in verse, this hit from the London stage will be heard for the first time in New York in this reading.
Single tickets are $15-$35 and include a post-show reception with the cast. Purchase at TheActingCompany.org or call (212) 258-3111.
The Salon Reading Series will continue April 24 with a reading of Dollhouse by Rebecca Gilman and conclude May 15 with Meg Miroshnik’s Lady Tattoo.
