Directed by Olivier Award winner Sean Foley, Joan Rivers will play two engagements at the London venue: Aug. 29-Sept. 18 and Dec. 2, 2008-Jan. 29, 2009. The production will also be seen at the Edinburgh Festival Aug. 7-25, 2008.

Joan Rivers: A Work in Progress By a Life in Progress stars Rivers as well as Emily Kosloski, Carrie Paff and Mark Philips. Melissa Rivers, Dorie Barton and Leo Marks are seen in film footage.

"Set in Joan's dressing room backstage at the Oscars ceremony," press notes state, "Joan is preparing for one of her legendary annual TV catwalk commentaries on the fashion hits and disasters at Hollywood's biggest night of the year. But all is not well... her dressing room is B, not A!!; her complimentary cheese is puny, not plentiful; and her producer is the bigwig's nephew, not the bigwig! The tension and drama are the catalyst for an introspective look at aging, going through life's ups and downs and being a woman in Hollywood. After Joan's five amazing decades in showbusiness, the topics fly by - some familiar, some not. The famous breakup with Johnny Carson is there, her husband's suicide, the feuds and firings, several backstabbings, sidesteps and full frontal calamities. You may think you've heard it all before, but you'd be wrong."

Joan Rivers made her Broadway stage debut in Fun City and later was a replacement player in Neil Simon's Broadway Bound. A stand-up comic making guest-host appearances on "The Tonight Show," Rivers eventually hosted her own talk show, "The Joan Rivers Show." She received a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress for her work in Sally Marr...and Her Escorts — which she also co-wrote.

Joan Rivers: A Work in Progress By a Life in Progress made its world premiere at Los Angeles' Geffen Playhouse in February. The 420-seat newly refurbished and renamed Leicester Square Theatre (formerly The Venue) is located at 5 Leicester Place in London.
