With the closing of The Cutting Room, where Rivers often debuted new material, the veteran performer now plays The Slipper Room Tuesdays at 7:30 PM through Feb. 24. Rivers, according to press notes, will present "her newest and most outrageous riffs on Hollywood, pop culture, celebrities, and award-show fashions."
A portion of the proceeds will benefit Rivers' favorite charities: God's Love We Deliver and Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Joan Rivers made her Broadway stage debut in Fun City and later was a replacement player in Neil Simon's Broadway Bound. A stand-up comic making guest-host appearances on "The Tonight Show," Rivers eventually hosted her own talk show, "The Joan Rivers Show." She received a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress for her work in Sally Marr...and Her Escorts — which she also co-wrote. Her most recent theatrical outing was in her autobiographical A Work in Progress by a Life in Progress.
The Slipper Room is located at 167 Orchard Street (on the corner of Orchard and Stanton Streets, one block below Houston). Tickets are $30; for reservations call (212) 352-3101 or visit www.SpinCycleNYC.com.
