Afterglow, the arts festival that features the work of boundary-pushing live artists, will return to Provincetown, MA, September 12-18 for its sixth year.
This year’s artists include Kim David Smith, Molly Pope, Raquel Cion, Brian King + Johnny Blazes, Ken Bullock, Bridget Barkan, Debs Gatenby, Heather Litteer, Joey Arias, Amy Stiller, M. Lamar, Martha Graham Cracker, Dane Terry and Amber Martin. Drew Wutke will be music director. Click here for details on the artists and their shows.
Performances will take place at the Paramount Room at the Crown & Anchor. Afterglow will also host an August 14 fundraiser to help support its artistic programming.
Under the leadership of Quinn Cox, who co-founded the festival with John Cameron Mitchell, Afterglow has quickly become an incubator for innovative fringe artists and under-the-radar performers to hone their craft. The Afterglow Festival and the American Repertory Theater’s second stage, Oberon, teamed up to create a winter-spring series called Glowberon last year. The partnership will return in 2016-17 with Dane Terry, Lady Rizo, Joey Arias and Johnny Blazes and Brian King.
Cox is also actively working to establish Afterglow as a year-round arts center in Provincetown. “The spirit of Provincetown, theatrically, is progressive and modern. So in order to really and truly take that on, you have to be continually creating new works,” Cox previously told Playbill.com. “We want to contribute to the town culturally and commercially."
Artists whose work has been developed at the festival include Bridget Everett, Taylor Mac, Justin Vivian Bond, Stephen Trask, Cole Escola, Dan Fishback, Erin Markey, Joseph Keckler and James Lecesne, among many others.
Tickets are $30 per show; $360 for a full GLOW pass to all festival shows. Afterglow “Sparklers” who donate $100 receive half-price tickets to all shows and attend all events.
