Invitation-only readings of Michele Aldin Kushner’s Radio Galaxy will be presented September 27 at 11 AM and 3 PM and September 28 at 2 PM at the Westside Theatre, 407 W. 43rd Street.
Directed by Mark Waldrop, the cast will feature Joey McIntyre (Wicked, New Kids on The Block), Lesli Margherita (Matilda, Dames at Sea), Hari Dhillon (Disgraced), and Nandita Shenoy (Washer/Dryer, Trouble Cometh).
The new play concerns Tino, a 17-year-old science prodigy from a blue-collar family, who dreams of a career in astronomy. Unexpectedly, his biological father, Raju, an astrophysicist and academic, enters Tino's life. Raju and his wife Daya have a life-altering request of Tino. The class and racial tensions provoked by the stakes and potential risks of the request spark conflicts between the two families as Tino's dreams hang in the balance.
Margot Astrachan produces. “Radio Galaxy explores family in a most thoughtful but also heart stopping way,” said Astrachan. “The play brings up insightful and thought provoking questions such as: What does it mean to be a father? What determines fatherhood? And can we overcome our prejudices? My hope is that the play will be the catalyst for insightful conversations about love and the family unit.”
