The 90-minute documentary begins at 9 PM ET (check local listings) and features rare archival footage and behind-the-scenes photos as well as excerpts from signature company works. "Founders Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino revolutionized American dance by combining modern with traditional ballet to create a new and daring art form," according to PBS. "['Joffrey: Mavericks of American Dance'] is the first to chronicle the Joffrey Ballet's pioneering dance philosophy. Award-winning filmmaker Bob Hercules traces the compan's struggles and triumphs: from its humble beginnings in 1956, touring the United States in a borrowed station wagon, to becoming one of the world’s most exciting and prominent ballet companies."

Patinkin, who won the Tony Award for his performance in Evita, was also Tony-nominated for his work in The Wild Party and Sunday in the Park With George. His other Broadway credits include Falsettos, The Secret Garden and Hamlet, among others.
