Spring Awakening alum John Gallagher, Jr. is set to star opposite Kristen Stewart in the new film Underwater, Deadline reports. The action thriller, which follows an underwater research crew who have to navigate the depths of the ocean after an earthquake, is being produced by 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment.

Directed by William Eubank, Underwater features a script by Brian Duffield. Jessica Henwick, T.J. Miller, Mamoudou Athie, and Vincent Cassel also star.

Since his Tony-winning performance as Moritz in the 2006 production of Spring Awakening, Gallagher, Jr. has performed on Broadway in American Idiot, Jerusalem, and Lond Day's Journey Into Night. His screen credits include the award-winning indie film Short Term 12 and TV's The Newsroom, in which he played Jim Harper.
