Performance artist John Kelly will return to downtown NYC's Fez for the premiere of "Shiny Hot Nights: More Songs of Joni Mitchell," the follow-up to his "Paved Paradise," on Oct. 20.
The two-time Obie Award-winner "inhabits the personae of Joni Mitchell in an entirely new evening of songs and stories," according to the press release. Kelly's counter-tenor range allows him to sing all of Mitchell's songs in their original keys. Mitchell's albums include "For the Roses," "Hejira," "Wild Things Run Fast" and "Blue."
Kelly has appeared in venues including BAM, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and Broadway, where he was most recently seen in James Joyce's The Dead.
"Shiny Hot Nights" runs Oct. 20-Nov. 17 at Fez, located at 380 Lafayette Street at Great Jones. For information and reservations, call (212) 533 2680.
