LOS ANGELES -- Uncle Sam's Umbrella, a new political comedy starring John La Motta and Emmy-winning James Luisi (First Ladies Diaries), opens May 15 at the Two Roads Theatre in Studio City for a six-week run.
Written by Shirley Hillard, the comedy is about "an average guy at an empty bandstand who encounters Uncle Sam." The director is Allison Bergman.
Luisi and LaMotta first appeared together in the original production of Zorba on Broadway in the late 60s. Luisi later came to prominence as Lt. Chapman on the long-running TV series The Rockford Files. He also starred on Broadway in Alfie and Sweet Charity, opposite Gwen Verdon.
LaMotta is frequently seen in the recurring role of the tavern- owner in the current hit series Frazier. His Broadway credits include Man of La Mancha and She Loves Me.
The Two Roads Theatre is at 4348 Tujunga Ave. in Studio City. Performances are Fri.-Sat at 8 PM; Sun. at 7 PM. Tickets are $15. Call (818) 766-9381. -- By Willard Manus
