Master ventriloquist Jay Johnson and his ten fellow cast members — Bob, Amigo, Darwin, Long John La Feat, Nethernore the bird of Death, Spaulding, Arthur Drew, Jackie, Ga Ga and Squeaky — will also make stops in Albuquerque, NM; Indianapolis and Culver, IN; Pittsburgh, PA; Crystal Lake, IL; and at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ.
After an Off-Broadway run and regional engagements, Jay Johnson: The Two and Only! opened at Broadway's Helen Hayes Theatre Sept. 28, 2006, and closed Nov. 26.
Although one of the best reviewed works of the Broadway season, the family-friendly production had a hard time luring theatregoers. Johnson's elegy/entertainment on the topic of the ancient art of ventriloquism began Broadway previews began Sept. 19, 2006.
The Two and Only! was conceived by Jay Johnson, Murphy Cross and Paul Kreppel and directed by Murphy Cross & Paul Kreppel.
The creative team also included Beowulf Boritt (scenery), Clifton Taylor (lighting), David Gotwald (sound) and Michael Andreas (original music).
