Tony nominee Jonathan Groff, who will return to Broadway this fall in the acclaimed Off-Broadway transfer of Stephen Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along, has landed an unnamed guest-starring role in the forthcoming new season of the long-running U.K. series Doctor Who.

About joining the TV series, stage and screen star Groff says, “I am so thrilled to jump into the extraordinary mind of Russell T Davies and watch the incredible Ncuti Gatwa soar in this iconic role!”

Showrunner Davies adds, “This is an incredible coup, and a great honour, to get such a huge star striding on to our set. So strap on your space boots, this is going to be a blast!”

Doctor Who is set to return in November with three episodes featuring David Tennant as the 14th Doctor to coincide with the series' 60th anniversary. Ncuti Gatwa’s first episode as the 15th Doctor will air over the holidays.

In addition to his Broadway work in Spring Awakening and Hamilton, Groff's screen credits include Glee, Knock at the Cabin, Mindhunter, The Matrix Resurrections, and the Frozen films.

The series airs on the BBC in the UK and Ireland. Disney+ is the exclusive home for new seasons outside those regions.
