News Jonathan Rayson, Megan Reinking, Jeff Hiller Join NYMF's The Children Casting has been announced for The Children, a new musical based on the low-budget 1980 horror film of the same title, at the New York Musical Theatre Festival.

Performances play Sept. 12-24 at the TBG Theatre.

The cast includes Mick Bonde (Frank), Maria de Cesare (Cathy), Jonathan Rayson (John), Tally Sessions (Billy), Jeff Hiller (Molly), Heath Calvert (Harry), Megan Reinking (Suzie), Rebecca Jones (Dee Dee), Trisha Rapier (Joyce) and Jeremy Ellison-Gladstone (Clarkie/Hank).

The creative team includes Hal Goldberg (composer), Stan Richardson (writer/lyricist), Tony Speciale (director), Paul Staroba (music director) and Jacob Climer (costume designer).

In The Children, a low-hanging cloud of radioactive waste turns a school bus full of children into second-rate zombies, who proceed to track down and zap their negligent parents one by one. The social satire elements of the film (irresponsible parents, latch-key kids, fears of power plants in suburbia) along with the techniques and traps that befall low-budget theatrical ventures are all parodied here.

The musical was originally written in two weeks, rehearsed in two and performed for the first time in 1998 at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts Festival of the Arts. It was then performed Off-Off-Broadway at HERE Arts Center in 1999. The score was also recorded in 2002. The TBG Theatre is located at 312 West 36th Street.
