News Judd Hirsch Replaces Brian d’Arcy James in Superior Donuts TV Adaptation The new comedy series from CBS is based on the Tony-nominated Tracy Letts play.

CBS is reportedly re-shooting the TV adaptation of the Tracy Letts play, Superior Donuts, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The pilot had initially failed to get a series pickup, but will now join the network’s comedy lineup with a new cast.

Two-time Tony winner Judd Hirsch has replaced Brian d'Arcy James in the series about a donut shop in a gentrifying neighborhood of Chicago.

The cast also includes comedian Jermaine Fowler, who stars, along with David Koechner, Maz Jobrani, Anna Baryshnikov, Darien Sills-Evans, Rell Battle and Katey Sagal. Of the original pilot cast, only Fowler, Jobrani and Koechner have returned.

The first season of Donut Shop is set to feature 13 episodes. The comedy is being produced in-house by CBS Television Studios.
