When purchasing tickets through the new on-line site, five percent of the ticket price will go directly to a not-for-profit organization of the ticket buyer's choice. "Theatregoers can give and get — thereby becoming a 'givenik,'" according to a press statement. More than 150 organizations are currently participating in the new program, including Human Rights Campaign, Dress for Success, God's Love We Deliver, Central Park Conservancy, People for the American Way, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Playwrights Horizons, local chapters of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers/Big Sisters as well as numerous community PTAs, public schools and temples.
In a statement Jordan Roth, the vice president of Jujamcyn Theaters, said, "At Givenik.com everybody wins. This is the way for Broadway audiences to both give and get: they can give to the charity of their choice as they get special discounts on tickets to dozens of Broadway and Off Broadway shows."
