Taymor, who has been working on the spectacle for almost a decade, claims she is owed $500,000 in unpaid royalties for her work. The claim was filed by Taymor's union, the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC), in June. The union says Taymor has not been paid royalties for the run of the show; performances began in November 2010 at Foxwoods Theatre. She received a $125,000 fee five years ago, it was reported.

Arbitrator George Nicolau will examine the issues, including the reasons that Taymor was fired from the project that she co-created. Taymor was replaced in March following negative reviews; a new director, writer and choreographer were brought in to streamline the story, which critics found chaotic. The show re-opened in June to better reviews. There were reports that Taymor was not willing to bow to producers demands for rewrites following the negative reviews in February.

The Times reported that the producers will claim that Taymor was in breach of contract. A representative of the producers had no ccomment for Playbill.com. The SDC did not immediately respond to a request for a statement.

The arbitration process is expected to last into the fall.
