Bill Berry, who directed the Seattle world premiere at the 5th Avenue Theatre in March, will helm the reading that features original leading man Ankrim opposite Chase (The Toxic Avenger). The reading is produced by Tony Award-winning Memphis producers Junkyard Dog Productions and Evita producer Hal Luftig.

First Date has a book by Austin Winsberg and music and lyrics by Zachary and Weiner. Zachary and Weiner's musical Secondhand Lions, penned with Tony winner Rupert Holmes (The Mystery of Edwin Drood), is gearing up for a 2013 Seattle debut at the 5th Avenue Theatre. That musical received a New York reading earlier this year.

The cast of First Date will also feature Alli Mauzey, Brandon O'Neill, Brad Oscar, Nicole Parker and Andre Ward.

According to the authors, "First Date is a contemporary, romantic musical comedy that explores all of the highs and lows of that dreaded but inevitable social encounter known as the 'first date.' The musical follows Aaron (Ankrim) and Casey (Chase), as they embark on their first date, and attempt to let down their guards and get to know each other. Each new topic they explore – friends, upbringings, religion, technology, even the great unifier, 'Quantum Leap' – represents a potential landmine on the path to true love. First Date taps into all of our basic human desires for romance and connection while exploring the modern dating landscape in a highly inventive and theatrical way."

The March 2012 premiere of First Date was a co-production between A.C.T. and the 5th Avenue Theatre.
