News Karen Ziemba Joins Never Gonna Dance, With Goodwin and Fleming on Her Heels Noah Racey and Nancy Lemenager, the relative newcomers in the choice lead roles of Never Gonna Dance, the new Jerome Kern musical, will be in good company this fall: Tony Award-winner Karen Ziemba will be featured in the show.

Additional casting for the musical comedy based on the Fred-and-Ginger film, "Swing Time," was announced Aug. 4. Deidre Goodwin (Nine and Chicago), Eugene Fleming (Kiss Me, Kate, Fosse), Ron Orbach, Peter Bartlett, David Pittu, Peter Gerety, Deborah Leamy, Philip LeStrange are also in the cast.

Ziemba won a Tony Award for Contact. She'll play Penny's wise-cracking pal.

Michael Greif (Rent) directs and Jerry Mitchell (The Full Monty, Hairspray) choreographs Never Gonna Dance, which has a libretto by the respected playwright Jeffrey Hatcher (Three Viewings, Scotland Road). The score borrows songs written by composer Kern and a number of famed lyricists, from films and stage shows. Bob Billig is musical director.

"The story of Never Gonna Dance begins with John 'Lucky' Garnett (Racet), a professional dancer, coming to New York in order to prove his worth to his fiancée's father by attempting to earn $25,000 by any means except dancing," according to the production notes. " Inspired by the energy and rhythms of the city, he of course can't keep still, and goes on to dance his way through hilarious adventures with his fine new romance, the dance teacher Penny Carroll (Lemenager)."

Ensemble members include Timothy J. Alex, Julio Augustin, Roxane Barlow, Julie Connors, Sally Mae Dunn, Jennifer Frankel, Jason Gillman, Greg Graham, Ipsita Paul, T. Oliver Reid, Kirby Ward and Tommar Wilson. Previews begin Oct. 27 at the Broadhurst Theatre, with an opening of Dec. 4. Box office opens Sept. 22.
