The Dramatists Guild Foundation honors Tony-winning writer, lyricist, and composer Sheldon Harnick at its annual DGF Gala November 12 at Manhattan Center. Hello, Dolly! Tony nominee Kate Baldwin hosts.
The evening also shines a light on two patrons of the arts: Estée Lauder Companies’ Executive Group President John Demsey and Chairman of Douglas Elliman’s Retail Group Faith Hope Consolo.
This year’s theme is First Look, providing guests an early glimpse of performances from recent and upcoming productions. Attendees can expect performances or appearances by Alan Cumming; Anthony Wilkinson, Josh Lamon, Matthew Sklar (composer), and Chad Beguelin (book writer) of The Prom; Eisa Davis of The Secret Life of Bees; Jai’len Josey of SpongeBob SquarePants; Elizabeth Stanley of Jagged Little Pill; Be More Chill composer Joe Iconis and performers George Salazar and Jason ‘SweetTooth’ Williams; and Next to Normal composer Tom Kitt; plus Kylie Selig, Stephanie Styles, Andrew Lippa, Daniel and Patrick Lazour, Duncan Sheik, Laurence O'Keefe, Theresa Rebeck, Matthew Saldivar, Jason Butler Harner, and Susan Birkenhead.
"These three honorees have left their mark on theater and the arts in myriad ways. Personally speaking, as both a writer and President of DGF, Sheldon's impact on my life has been immense,” said Lippa, president of DGF, in an earlier statement. “It is a privilege to honor them all at our Gala in November."
Harnick, who was born in Chicago in 1924, wrote his first song for Broadway in 1952. His collaboration with composer Jerry Bock produced such classics as Fiorello! (1959), which won both a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award, and Fiddler on the Roof (1964), which won the Tony for Best Musical.
