Tony nominee Kate Baldwin will play Anna Leonowens opposite the King of Paolo Montalban in the forthcoming Chicago production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I.
The production is scheduled to run April 29-May 22 at Lyric Opera of Chicago. It will be staged by Lee Blakeley, who directed this production’s 2014 premiere at Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, where the current Broadway production of An American in Paris originated. Opening night is set for April 30.
Baldwin starred on Broadway in Big Fish and earned her Tony nomination for playing Sharon in a revival of Finian's Rainbow. Montalban, who played Lun Tha in te 1996 Broadway revival of King and I, also appeared there in Pacific Overtures. He played the Prince in ABC's telefilm of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, alongside Brandy and Whitney Houston.
The creative team also includes choreographer Peggy Hickey, scenic designer Jean-Marc Puissant, costume designer Sue Blane and conductor David Chase.
