Oscar and Tony Award nominee Turner appeared in San Francisco in Tallulah at the Curran and as Martha in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? at the Golden Gate Theatre. Lombardo's Tea at Five starring Kate Mulgrew played at Marines Memorial Theatre.
Directed by Rob Ruggiero (Broadway's Looped and the touring Ella), High also features Evan Jonigkeit (also of the Broadway production) as drug addict Cody Randall and Timothy Altmeyer as Father Michael Delpapp. Altmeyer was the standby for original star Stephen Kunken on Broadway. The play had a brief life at Broadway's Booth Theatre in spring 2011.
Here's how the lurid, twist-filled play is billed: "When Sister Jamison Connelly (Turner) agrees to sponsor a 19-year-old drug user in an effort to help him combat his addiction, her own faith is ultimately tested. Struggling between the knowledge she possesses as a rehabilitation counselor and a woman of religious conviction, she begins to question her belief in miracles and whether people can find the courage to change. High explores the universal themes of truth, forgiveness, redemption and human fallibility."
High is produced by Ann Cady Scott & Timothy J. Hampton in association with The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis.
High is a special engagement on the SHN 2011-2012 season under the direction of Carole Shorenstein Hays. For more information visit www.shnsf.com/shows/high.
