Kansas City Repertory Theatre will present the world premiere of Roof of the World by D. Tucker Smith and helmed by artistic director Eric Rosen. Set during Queen Victoria's rule, the romance and adventure story is centered on a British family caught in a political crisis.
"The action follows a young British explorer and an Indian spy in disguise as they travel into the uncharted territory of what is now Afghanistan," states a description on the KC Rep website. "Their story unfolds amidst 'The Great Game' — the race between England and Russia to map the Pamir Mountains to gain control of much of Asia of which they are both instrumental players. Daring escapes and fights, blossoming secret love, and the transformation of a rich Victorian family put at odds with the British Empire will keep your heart racing until its final moments."
Performances will begin Feb. 26 at Copaken Stage and are scheduled to run through March 27. An opening night is set for March 4.
The cast includes Anjali Bhimani, Jason Chanos, Bree Elrod, Brent Harris, Darrie Lawrence, Matthew Lindblom, Mark Robbins, Vanessa Severo and Rusty Sneary. The design and production team includes Jack Magaw (set design), Amanda Zieve (lighting design), Gregory Gale (costume design), Andre Pluess (sound design) and Jeffrey Cady (projections design).
The production is part of Origin KC, KC Rep’s new play development program. To purchase tickets and for more information, visit KCRep.org or call (816) 235-2700. The Copaken Stage is located at 1 H&R Block Way, Kansas City, MO.
