Shakespeare Theatre's Lady Windermere's Fan Dixie Carter will find herself in Victorian society in The Shakespeare Theatre's production of Oscar Wilde's scandal-scented Lady Windermere's Fan , directed by Keith Baxter, June 7-July 31 in Washington, D.C.

Star of television ("Designing Women"), stage (Master Class, Thoroughly Modern Millie ) and cabaret (The Café Carlyle), Carter was previously announced for the production. She'll play sly Mrs. Erlynne in the 1890s-set social comedy.

"Suspecting her husband of infidelity with a woman of 'ill repute,' Lady Windermere decides to strike back at him through her own unfaithfulness," according to the resident company. Among Carter's castmates are Tessa Auberjonois as Lady Windermere, Gregory Wooddell as Mr. Cecil Graham, Nancy Robinette as Duchess of Berwick, David Sabin as Lord Augustus Lorton and Andrew Long as Lord Windermere.

Carter starred in The Shakespeare Theatre's production of A Woman of No Importance.
