Kidman – a 2002 Oscar winner for "The Hours" – has reunited with the novel's author, Michael Cunningham, who will pen the screenplay, Variety reports. Kidman stars as Springfield in the untitled film that she is producing under her company Blossom Films.
Tony Award-winning actress Kristin Chenoweth is also starring as the British pop singer in a separate film treatment penned by Jessica Sharzer for Universal Pictures.
Kidman is also slated to appear in David Lindsay-Abaire's film adaptation of his Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Rabbit Hole for Fox Searchlight, also produced by Kidman's company Blossom Films.
Kidman appeared on Broadway in David Hare's The Blue Room. Her film credits include "Moulin Rouge," "Dogville," "Cold Mountain," "The Others," "To Die For" and "Dead Calm," "Margot at the Wedding" and "Birth."
Dusty Springfield's many hits included "I Only Want to Be With You," "I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself" and "Son of a Preacher Man." Known for her music as well as her personal battles with substance abuse, Springfield died of cancer in 1999.
