California’s La Jolla Playhouse will present the world premiere of Mat Smart’s Kill Local as part of its 2017-18 season. The show was developed from a reading featured in the Playhouse’s DNA New Work Series.

Kill Local is set to run in August at the Shelia and Hughes Potiker Theatre, located at 2910 La Jolla Village Drive, La Jolla. Jackson Gay (Kingdom City) will direct.

A dark comedy about an uninspired assassin following the family business, Kill Local looks at “blood ties, revenge and trying to get unstuck—especially when your life is dedicated to ending others,” read production notes.

“During its DNA New Work Series reading this past December, I witnessed how this savage – and savagely funny – play electrified the crowd,” said Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley in a press statement. “And was determined to share it with a larger audience as part of our 2017/2018 season.”

Casting and additional creative team members will be announced at a later date.
