Director Wilson Milam, of Killer Joe fame, is off to London (by way of Los Angeles) for a week of business before returning to start work on the Berkeley Repertory production of Closer. Closer is scheduled to open in California on April 17. Milam has just opened a new play by Killer Joe scribe Tracy Letts, called Bugs, at Washington, D.C.’s Wholly Mammoth. There, Milam had to face a challenging few weeks of “technical madness” in launching Bugs, especially since that Washington, D.C. opening overlapped with a Chicago opening of Killer Joe.

Comparing the two plays humorously, Milam said the violent nature of Bugs had raised the new production’s “blood pack” budget the way Killer Joe's budget was raised by the excessive use of paper towels on stage .
