Clear Channel Entertainment, T. D. Jakes Enterprises and Mathew Knowles [sic] present the tour. Knowles is known in music circles as the manager of Destiny's Child, featuring his daughter Beyoncé and current Aida star Michelle Williams.
Based on the Bishop T.D. Jakes novel, Cheryl Davis adapts Cover Girls with composers and co-lyricists Cedric and Victor Caldwell. Jakes co-wrote and co produces and contributes to the lyrics.
The musical tells the story of four seemingly dissimilar women who struggle to balance their 21st century urban lives with their belief in God. They are: a career woman who has survived abuse; a once-happily married woman broken by tragedy; a wealthy and influential woman misguided by her own prestige; and a devout and charitable woman.
Gospel legend and Grammy Award winner Ann Nesby ("The Fighting Temptations,") will join Fields in the cast. Also in the ensemble are Terrence Archie, Barbara Braughton, Tor Campbell, Patrick Husted, Celli Pitt, Mariessa Portelance, Myron Primes and Joe Wilson, Jr.
James Stovall (Black Nativity) will direct Cover Girls. The design team include Paul Weimer (scenic), Jeff Crotier (lighting), Sosa (costume) and Duncan Robert Edwards (sound). The schedule of tour stops (subject to change) is as follows:
