On July 23, Splash owner Brian Landeche announced that the gay nightlife institution would close its doors Aug. 10 after 22 years of operation in the heart of Chelsea.
While it is the end of an era for Splash patrons, "Musical Mondays" - now billed as "Monday Musicals" – will continue at XL nightclub, located on 42nd Street between 10th and 11th Avenues.
Kinky Boots Tony Award winner Billy Porter will launch the new engagement of "Monday Musicals," which begins Aug. 12.
The new "Monday Musicals" promises an "enhanced, supercharged" version of the Broadway series from 6 PM-12 AM each week. The goal is to welcome weekly special guests. Katrina Darling will offer a "God Save the Queen" burlesque performance Sept. 14. Additional guests will be announced.
Dougie Meyer, who has been with Splash for the past eight years, will join the XL team with "Monday Musicals." Among the numerous theatre performers to sing at Splash's "Musical Mondays" in the past years are Patti LuPone, Donna McKechnie, Leslie Kritzer, Telly Leung, Mary Testa, Melba Moore, and more.
