News Kristin Chenoweth Debuts at the Donmar

The 2002 Divas at the Donmar series has reached its final week with Kristin Chenoweth, a Tony-award winning singer.

Having initially planned a career as an opera singer (and she treats herself to the very operatic Glitter and Be Gay towards the end of the evening) Chenoweth then moved into music theatre.

Mixing a career on stage, television and film (she has just finished making a movie version of The Music Man, opposite Matthew Broderick) she is very well known in the States, though far less so over here. That should change after this short run at the Donmar.

Her program is a varied one, with lively comic numbers - like "Daddy" and "The Girl in 14G," in which she had another burst of opera singing - alternating with romantic pieces like "My Funny Valentine" and "Bill." Romance was the main theme of the evening, with songs like "Til There Was You" from The Music Man.
