Vonnegut is the author of the novels "Slaughterhouse-Five," "Cat's Cradle" and "God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater."
To adapt Make Up Your Mind, Silver (Pterodactyls, Raised in Captivity, The Lyons) was given access to everything that Vonnegut was known to have written, including novels, letters, essays and interviews, according to The New York Times.
The Times reports that Donald C. Farber, Vonnegut’s friend, lawyer and literary executor, suggested reviving Make Up Your Mind to his friend, theatrical producer Tracy Goss. A reading was held, but Gross and producing partners Jim Fugitte and Terry Schnuck decided more work was needed and asked Silver to join the team.
The production will be directed by Cliff Fannin Baker, the founder and former artistic director of Arkansas Repertory Theatre.
"Roland Stackhouse thinks our greatest obstacle is indecisiveness—and he has the answer!" press notes state. "Make Up Your Mind Inc. But just as business takes off, romance rears its head, and Stackhouse finds himself in a world of wealthy coquettes, paid enforcers, blue movies and confused clergy. It's a world only Kurt Vonnegut could imagine! Kurt Vonnegut's Make Up Your Mind is really about more than sticking to decisions—it's about that rarest of all commodities, human connection."
