Christopher Kyle, who’s play The Monogamist recently premiered off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons, will be in residence in Charlotte, NC, for the world premiere of his comedy Boca, running at the Charlotte Repertory Theatre June 11-22.

The press release for Boca describes it as a cross between films It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World and Fargo. The bizarre comic drama was first presented as a reading in Charlotte Rep’s 10th Annual 1996 New Play Festival. The Charlotte Observer called Boca “one of the best plays the Festival has ever produced.”

Boca is about nine people who believe they will find their true identities and true happiness in Boca Raton, FL. The group follows the lead of orphan Jay, who is on a hunt for his real parents, from Terre Haute, IN, through Cheap motels, waffle houses and gun shops, to Boca.

Kyle’s previous work with Charlotte Rep includes the development of his play Event Horizon, which was subsequently developed at NY Stage & Film at the Vassar Powerhouse Theatre. Playwrights Horizons will continue to support Kyle’s work this season, by premiering his Plunge this fall.
