When Fine Line Features releases Joe Mantello's film of Terrence McNally's Tony-winning Love! Valour! Compassion!, the May 6 premiere will be a benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and Community Research Initiative on AIDS. McNally and Mantello will chair the benefit, which takes place at Sony Theatres in Manhattan's Lincoln Square.
After a screening of the film, about gay men living with love, betrayal, AIDS and aging at a Long Island summer house; guests will board The Spirit Of New York for a post-film cruise. Most unusual these days is that many in the film's cast (who'll be on the cruise) are the same as the cast of the Broadway show: Stephen Bogardus, John Glover, Justin Kirk, Randy Becker and John Benjamin Hickey. New to the tale are Jason Alexander (in the Nathan Lane role of Buzz), and Stephen Spinella.
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is the nation's largest industry-based organization working to address the challenges of AIDS. The Community Research Initiative on AIDS studies new treatments for HIV and AIDS-related diseases.
Tickets for the L!V!C! benefit range from $125-$350, all including the film, cruise and reception. For information call (212) 840-0770.
