Classic Arts News La Jolla Summerfest Announces 2005 Season The La Jolla Summerfest will include performances of new works by Lalo Shifrin and Mark O'Connor performed by their composers, the San Diego-area festival announced.
The festival, which runs August 4-21, also includes visits from Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble, cellist Lynn Harrell, violinist Gil Shaham, pianist Andr_ Watts, and the Australian Chamber Orchestra with violinist and music director Richard Tognetti,

Artistic director Cho-Liang Lin appears several times, performing on the violin with Shifrin, O'Conner, the ACO, and Watts.

Contemporary works on the schedule include Shifrin's Letters From Argentina, in its California premiere; Christopher Rouse's Second Quartet and Compline; and O'Connor's Appalachia Waltz Trio and String Quartet No. 2 ("Bluegrass").
