News LaChiusa's First Lady Suite to Play London's Union Theatre London's Union Theatre will host the U.K and European professional premiere of Micahel John LaChiusa's 1993 show First Lady Suite, which is scheduled to begin performances Sept. 29 (prior to an official opening Oct. 1), for a run through Oct. 17.

First Lady Suite will be directed by Rania Jumaily. Casting is still to be announced.

According to press materials, First Lady Suite takes us into the hearts and minds of history's most famous First Ladies - Eleanor Roosevelt, Jackie Kennedy and Mamie Eisenhower - providing an imaginative and irreverent look behind the scenes of the White House and the women who lived within its walls.

The show, which premiered at Off-Broadway's Public Theatre where it ran for 32 performances, received a special citation in the Obie Awards. It was staged in a revised version in Los Angeles in 2002, and that cast subsequently recorded an album that was released in 2003. The show was also revived in a different production in New York by the Transport Group for a short run in 2004 and received two Drama Desk Award nominations.

LaChiusa's work has previously been seen at the Union Theatre when his version of The Wild Party was produced there in 2003. This production of First Lady Suite is produced by Richard Jones for Take Note Theatre, who have previously presented new musicals at the Edinburgh Fringe and at London's Theatre 503 and Jermyn Street Theatres.
