LAGUNA BEACH, CA -- Michael Matthys and Charles Lanyer comprise the cast of Jon Marans' Old Wicked Songs, previewing Jan. 5 for a Jan. 7, 1999 opening at the Laguna Playhouse. The director for the run, through Jan. 31, 1999, is Richard Stein.
Lanyer was seen recently in South Coast Repertory's production of Tom Stoppard's Arcadia. He has also performed numerous roles at the American Conservatory Theatre and Berkeley Rep.
Matthys is a young actor who holds an MFA in acting from the University of Minnesota. His credits include roles at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis.
Scenic and costume design is by Dwight Richard Odle. The lighting is by Paulie Jenkins, sound by David Edwards.
Old Wicked Songs deals with the clash of wills between a young American piano prodigy and his music teacher. Set in Vienna during the controversial presidential election of Kurt Waldheim, the shadow of World War Two hangs over this tale of two men who regard each other's cultures with suspicion.
