LOS ANGELES -- The Hudson Guild opens its 1998 season Mar. 14 with a production of Moliere's Tartuffe. Jack Stehlin, artistic director of the Guild, directs this 17th-century comedy about morality and ethics. Stehlin is also the co-producer of the show with Jeannine Welles. "Tartuffe is more than a comedy about sex and hypocrisy," Stehlin said. "While we are laughing at the players, we may become conscious of our own morality and reaction to public scandal. It will always be a very modern play."

The cast includes Richard Cicchini, Claudia Fielding, Jenna Fischer, Deborah Gold, Melanie Jernigan, Brian G. Kurlander, Jordan Lund, Mae Marmy, Dean Nichols, Daniel Nathan Spector, Ray Xifo and Stehlin.

Performances run through Apr. 25 at the Hudson Guild Theatre, 6539 Santa Monica Blvd., Hollywood. For tickets, call (888) 566-8499.
