Oedipus the King, in a new translation by Kenneth Cavander, begins previews Feb. 26 at Glendale's A Noise Within Theatre, with an opening set for Mar. 5. Art Manke directs the Sophocles classic, which runs through May 8.

Robertson Dean (as Oedipus), Apollo Dukakis (as the Shepherd) and Lorna Raver (as Jocasta) head the cast of Sophocles' drama. Others in the cast include June Claman, Mitchell Edmunds, Rod Menzies and Gail Shapiro. In the chorus are Todd Beadle, Chris Bultman, Marissa Hall, Louis Lotorto, Stephanie Lowe, Stephen Rockwell, Tressa Sharbough, Richard Soto, John Staley and Hisa Tatakuwa.

The West Coast premiere of Cavander's translation has an original score by Norman Berman.

Other plays on A Noise Within's 1999 spring repertory schedule include Joe Orton's What the Butler Saw (Mar. 19-May 15); and Shaw's Heartbreak House (Apr. 9-May 16).
