News Last Chance: Batting Cage's Ackermann Stops Walking In MI, Sept. 12 Prolific socio-political playwright Joan Ackermann debuted her latest, Marcus Is Walking: Scenes From The Road in May 1998, at Otterbein College Theatre in Westerville, OH. Prolific socio-political playwright Joan Ackermann debuted her latest, Marcus Is Walking: Scenes From The Road in May 1998, at Otterbein College Theatre in Westerville, OH. Ackerman was commissioned by Otterbein, which has a history of staging world premieres by up-and coming playwrights.

Now the show is getting its professional premiere at MI's Purple Rose Theatre Company. Scheduled to run July 16-Aug. 29, Walking was recently extended to Sept. 12, "due to the popular demand for tickets."

Joseph Albright, Randall Godwin, Sarab Kamoo, Michelle Mountain, Wayne David Parker and Cadi Sutter star. Designing the show are Daniel C. Walker (set), Reid G. Johnson (lighting) and Rebecca Valentino (costumes). Anthony Caselli directs.

Marcus Is Walking takes a comic look at America's obsession with cars, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the invention of the automobile.

Ackermann's other plays include Off The Map, Stanton's Garage (both of which were staged at Purple Rose) and The Batting Cage which had an Off-Broadway run with Veanne Cox and Babo Harrison. The playwright has had her work produced at the Louisville Humana Festival and read at L.A.'s Mark Taper Forum.
