LOS ANGELES -- The local premiere of Mark Medoff's new play about the battle between two scientists over the fate of a gorilla being used in AIDS research will end its extended run Nov. 15. The Odyssey Theatre production opened Sept. 12 (after previews from Sept. 9) and was originally supposed to run to Nov. 1.

Despite the subject matter, Gila is "by no means an AIDS play," said a company spokesperson. "It is a play about people locked in a struggle for what they believe is right -- and for what they hold most dear."

Tony Award-winning Phyllis Frelich (Medoff's Children of a Lesser God)) and Emmy Award-winning Heather Tom (TV's "The Young and the Restless") play the lead roles.

Performances are Wed.- Sat. 8 PM; Sun. 7 PM. The Odyssey is at 2055 S. Sepulveda Blvd. Tix are $18.50-$22.50. Call (310) 477-2055.
